Great info, thanks a lot. The only parts I found to be really bad, was the back wooden deck and a couple interior walls that water has leaked into and swelled the wood.
Teak deck (or more exactly the plywood underneath it) can be an issue if not properly maintained. Once you repair, Cetol will be your best friend to keep it sealed. If you are doing refinishing, don't use varnish on any deck surfaces - gets too slippery when it's wet.
License number on the boat 60 E 20141 tells you where it was last licensed. E means Ontario (they start out east with 'A' for Nova Scotia I think) then work their way west. Quebec is D. Ontario is E. Eventually BC is K. The number before the letter tells you which city the boat was licensed in. 60 E is Bracebridge. 18 E is Hamilton. 54 E is Toronto. The last numbers are a sequence number ... so your boat was the 20,141st licensed in Bracebridge.
This structure for license numbers is the 'old' style ... now they are Americanizing things .. you will see newer boats with license numbers like ON 56482 (ON for Ontario, followed by sequence number)

Oh yeah .... one more thing... once you get her in the water, learn how your boat handles, and how to handle your boat. Don't do this....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... zMT9xtvcA4.
Absolutely nothing complicated about what this skipper tried to do. Absolutely nothing that should have gone wrong. Just someone at the helm who had no clue what they were doing. Using the bow thruster to try to turn (you can hear it) shows that they don't know how to handle the boat. I have the same fear about people buying all new the boats with 'joystick control' today... if you can't handle the boat without your precious joystick, you shouldn't be on the water.
If you train and practice properly, you can turn that boat in the length of the hull, + swim platform and bow pulpit, + 2-4' on either end. With your TriCab, if you have a 2' pulpit and 2' platform, with the right skills, you can spin that boat in something as narrow as 45-46' without much sweat.
Canadian Power and Sail Squadron (
http://www.cps-ecp.ca/) offers courses to help you understand what you have, how to operate it, and how to be safe on the water. Please take at least the Boating Basics (an PCOC - Pleasure Craft Operator Card) and Boating Essentials courses to get a good grounding. Would you let one of your kids get in a car without any driver training? With a boat, you can't just pull over to the side of the road and park it if you get confused... so basic training and awareness is that much more important.
You will need real hands on training in how to handle the boat that CPS doesn't offer (but private organizations, people on the docks, and your local Trojan Boat Forum members would probably be happy to help with), but at least the CPS training will give you an understanding of what you are really getting into... the risks involved, and the responsibilities that go with it.

Wow! thanks Captainmaniac, thanks for all the info.
I don't think I'll have the boat ready for the coming season, possibly the next though.
I WILL take a boating course like the one you posted. I had my children take drivers education when they started to drive a car, I didn't want them to get hurt or hurt someone else. I think it would be irresponsible to subject people and their property to loss and injury because I didn't want to spend a few days learning how to control a 15,000 lb. wrecking ball.
Thanks again, I plan to be an asset to the boating community, not a liability.

Welcome.
I am sure that you will greatly enjoy the boat. I purchased the same make and model of boat late last fall. I had it launched starting the long weekend last July, and we brought the boat from Lake Simcoe, thru the Trent Severnm and into the Georgian Bay. We spent several days in the 30,000 islands then had it lifted out at Midland and hauled to Goderich. It was a 2 week trip. In Goderich it is primarily used as a floating cottage. We had a great trip on it. It is easy to handle and very comfortable. We had the wife, two teenagers, and two lab puppies on board, and not once did we want to kill each other.
As for problems with the boat, most of the problems I have had were more of a result of sins from previous owners. There has been almost 40 years of tinkering, and we have no idea of the what, why, etc. Usually all it has taken is a little time to trace things and some elbow grease. Anyways, this forum as proven to be very helpful in both posts that I have made as well as searching previous posts.
Maybe I will stop by and say hi as I often tow the fishing boat to Port Stanley for the day.

That trip sounds like a good time, congrats on not killing anyone, including your pets

, I have 3 dogs myself.
Please do stop by if you come down to Port Stanley, I will show you a little Lake Erie hospitality, don't ask me about good fishing spots though, I don't fish!
I'm on Hyw 45 (John Wise line) near Luton

You can even do the same things with a single screw boat, but, you have to understanding the dynamics of what is happening below water and above the water.

Hi Barrie,
I actually spilled some blood on that boat! I visited this boat but dicided to pass! It does need a lot of work... When trying to open the hatch to the generator, the brass eye broke and cut my finger fairly deep! I felt it all the way back to Ottawa... Anyhow, I thought i notice a bit of a spungy deck at the front and side walkways as well. I could not get myself to take on such repairs! Maybe I was dreaming. I'm no expert....
I am still looking though... Enjoy the geourney. I am sure it will be rewarding.
PS: did you get her off the mountain top?

Christian, the guy that was selling the boat for the owner, Jody told me about it, he was so worried about you, he did say it was a long and deep cut. I did see the broken eye. I hope there was no permanent injury.
It is a large project I'm sure, and likely larger than I know. I have a problem, I can't let beautiful old cars, houses and now boats go to the grave, someone needs to love them back to life.
I hope you find one that is just right for you.
I won't be moving it from the mountain (that's quite the view from Ridge road over Stoney Creek) till spring, I have another project in the yard.
I am finding it hard to concentrate on my current project though

Thanks adrewoh, I haven't got it home yet, I have a 25' Cruiser Inc that I'm just finishing ( stringers, wood work, electrical and engine rebuild) my first boat project.
It's good learning for the real project
I did craw through it and take some more pictures and then wrap it for the winter snow.
I hope to get it delivered in the spring. I've got quotes in the $1100 range, not bad for 2 hours away.

LOL! I like to say it was just a flesh wound... I got home and put crazy glue to stitch my finger back together! That stopped it from flapping around... In reality, it was not that bad. just a lot of blood.

Oh, well good you have something to do til you get it. I got my 36 in Nov of last year and worked on it all winter...kind of wondering what I'm going to do w myself this winter

I did a lot of work on my previous f31 and I have to tell you, 5 more feet was a lot more work! But that kind of work is fun work.
Good luck with the cruiser- sounds like that's been a project!
