deregulated baltimore gas and electric as well as the cable companies and held closed door public service commission hearings. the result was a rate increase of over 73%, literally over night, in electric and natural gas bills. and the cable companies went crazy too. (i know this needs to be moved to the 'other section', but i thought i'd add my thoughts on that.) i think i will pay a visit to the DNR in annapolis this week and call boatUS GOVT affairs dept. they already have my # on speed dial w/ the corn gas issue.

This money grab is being proposed by Bob Gaudette for DNR. At present all there money comes from boat sales and with sales down they are short on cash. What do they think this would do to sales ? As of now they receive approx. $2.1 mil. thru registrations, with the increase they would get $13.2 mil. Wow!!!! I only recieved a 2% pay increase and they get this huge amount. With approx. 200,000 boaters in Maryland we need to all meet at Annapolis and tell them they are fired ! They all seem to forget they work for us. I always hope that history repeats itself and we the people rebell against unfair taxes as we did with England.

I just got my registration renewal here in Michigan and for my F-32 I pay $168 for 3 years. They all expire on March 31.....

NJ boat registration is $57 per year. This is a lot more than the $36 every two years I was paying in PA. Unfortunately, my Trojan is not trailerable like my last boat and is being moored in NJ so I have to register it in NJ.

This is the information for Massachusetts. If your boat is documented you don't have to pay the registration fees. There is also excise (personal property) tax collected by cities and towns at their discretion, you have to pay it where the boat is principally moored. It is based on the value of the boat. For my Chris Craft it was $70 per year. My city has several large marinas and goes after everyone by getting a list from the marinas, then issuing a mooring sticker when you have paid your excise tax. Fines for not having a mooring sticker are up to $50 per day. All of the money collected has to go back to a Waterways fund that they can use to build and maintain channels, launch ramps, public piers, etc, as well as pay for Harbormasters and Police Marine Patrols.

Oh yeah, you also pay 6.25 % sales tax when you buy a boat. You pay it on the selling price or the Blue book value, which every is higher.
