Forward hatch is back on and my homemade trim ring turned out great. it took over an hour to get the old gasket off and naturally the new gasket I got from west marine was 3 inches short which I figured out after installing it! The last two ports are totally installed. I completely blew out the steering lines with compressed air, drained the reservoir and installed the rebuilt steering ram. The old steering fluid looked like coffee! glad I properly flushed it out. I made two new skylite from a sheet of 1/2 lexan (not caulked in yet) I completely sandblasted the aftcabin window primed it then painted it with white rustolem. Was afraid of the paint scratching so I topcoated it with clear "non-yelowing" high temp, chip resistant clearcoat for aluminum wheels which naturally now has a yellow tint! installed it anyway since I plan of ordering a new window in the near future. Wanted to add something cool for my kids since the aft cabin is their room so I ripped a piece of 3/4 pvc board into 1 inch strips. I made a template of the radius of the aft window ends, heated and bent the pvc in a radius that fits perfectly around the window. This allowed me to pad the actual decorative trim out far enough to let me install multi color led light strips underneath. I got the kit from lowes, cut the plug/transformer end off and wired it into the dc fuse box I had installed earlier. works perfect! Couldnt find louvers I liked in white so I painted a tan set. I also replaced all the "fuzzy felt " seals on the slider as well as all six of the roller wheels and got it installed.

Generator oil, antifreeze and zincs and fuel filter changed. Pulled old impeller (had 3 cracked vanes just from sitting!) and will wait to install the new one. Pulled carb and cleaned it. replaced hose clamps and did some touch up painting . removed a siphon break that was scaring me and replaced it with a direct hose. The way it was set up looked like an accident waiting to happen. the gen sets a few feet above the water line and I always had priming problems with the cooling water which I resolved by putting a piece of tape over the siphon vent anyway.
Got the water outlets for the wet bar in and put the last piece of vinyl on the dinet base.

Thanks again for posting everything! It's very helpful as a resource for those working on their boats and will help me work on my boat. You do great work!
I am going to get some PVC trim and bend it for my hatches. The original parts are falling apart on my boat. So many good ideas and solutions in your chronicle.

Thanks guys ! cant wait for the day she's in the water again!
srokag44, its a kohler 5E. 5kw. i had the old 6.5 onan but it had seen better days. sold it on ebay and picked up the kohler with 88 hrs on it! never had a single problem going from 6.5 to 5kw but we use common sense. if the ac is on and someone is running a hair dryer we wait to run the microwave. Bimmerbill shoot me a message before you do the trim and ill walk you through it, (its really easy once you set up the template )
If anyone else stumbles upon this post and has questions about anything that i may be able to help you with dont ever hesitate to contact me, if nothing else im sure i can tell you "what not to do"! lol!

Yeah I thought it was the 5kw kohler. Does yours have the vent plug in the expansion tank opposite of the fill cap? I can't tell from your picture if there is a hole there or just a smudge.

Hey Todd,

How did you end up finishing your woodwork? Did you start with an epoxy layer? What varnish did you go with? Thanks in advance!!!
