ENGINE TROUBLE

GOOD DAY EVERYONE.
I HAVE A 1969 30' SEA RAIDER THAT UP UNTIL LAST SEASON WAS A DREAM TO OWN. MY PROBLEM WAS AND STILL IS, THE PORT ENGINE WOULD START WITH NO PROBLEM, RUN FINE, BUT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DOCK THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND NOT RE-START UNTIL THE ENGINE COOLED DOWN. USUALLY 30 MINUTES LATER. I HAVE REPLACED THE ROTOR, POINTS, CONDENSER, PLUGS AND COIL. THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP WAS REPLACED IN '07 AND IS STILL IN GREAT CONDITION. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF WATER IN THE GAS AND THE ENGINE WAS GETTING FUEL. BEFORE I START TEARING THE THING APART AND PULLING OUT MY HAIR, HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM OR HAVE ANY ADVISE ON HOW TO CORRECT IT.
THANKS IN ADVANCE...HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK ON THE WATER,
LAKEWIND

What engine?
Stalls when docks ... after a day of running? Did you come intpo port slowly (idle for 10-15 minutes), or had it just slowed down (<5 minutes)?

Cables should have no efect unless you have a I/O . sounds like a carb issue . what engine set up do you have ?

thanks! to answer some of the questions. boat is powered by twin 302 interceptor, model 210 engines. usually idle for less than 5 minutes when docking. have tried to put gas directly in the carb after stalling and it still would not start. what other information would be helpful?
thanks again

I engine could be flooding out pull the flame arester off when this happen and see if it driping gas .

I agree with Prowlerfish, A carb rebuild is cheap and very affective. Well worth the money.

It runs fine when you start it and idle for a while?
The it dies after you've been out running all day, and then idle during docking?
I would not recommend pouring gas in the carb ... sounds like a fire to me.

I had a similar problem which I finally figured out was caused by ethanol scouring the insides of the gas tank and loading up my fuel with junk. It apparently would build up in the filter and keep the engine from running right, and then settle out or dissolve when the boat sat for a while.
I got an electric fuel pump and emptied the bottom five gallons out of the tank thinking the problem was water. The fuel was so full of varnish from the tank walls that it looked like brown soup. I replaced the filters a few times, and I've not had a problem since.

Ethanol has caused a lot of boating problems the last few years. It ate the all the seals on my 454's Quadrajet earlier this year.
Changing the fuel filter would be a good/easy idea.

Did you replace the balist resistor?

First thing, 210 interceptors are ford 289 cid. Do you have closed water cooling ? Could be a thermostat issue or maybe a bad raw water impeller ( not cooling enough at low rpm & vapor locking). Fuel filters could cause problems at low rpms (dirty filters = lots of vacuum. low rpms can't overcome restriction) Something to look at anyway.
