Trojan Boat Forum

I'm new here but fell in love with these boats. I've got a chance to pick up a 75 f-36 sport model with twin Chrylser 440's. It seems in pretty good shape with just cosmetic fixes needed here and there. The asking price is $16K. Is this a fair deal? Is there anything else I should ask the seller?

First of all welcome to the forum.

There are many here that own that exact boat and will be able to advise you on specifics. My advice is get a good and thorough survey done before you do anything else. That will tell you exactly what condition the boat is in and any honest seller will not object to that.

Good luck and post some pics when you can. If you're not sure how to post pics, email them to one of us an we can post them for you. That will also help.

Thanks for the fast relpy. I am looking for a good surveyor now. This is a huge step up for us with a 20 foot center console now but the thought of AC and a bathroom onboard has my wife excited.

If you will let us know where you are located and where the boat is we can probably steer you to a good surveyor.

Yes AC and a bathroom, not to mention a nice V-berth, usually helps the ladies get excited about our boats.

Welcome aboard, If I found an F-36 Sedan in good running condition for $16,000 I would jump on it, but that's just me, and here in the northwest Trojans are not as plentiful. Check the stringers, decks and bridge floor for soft spots, engines and trans, and remember, there is nothing on a boat that can't be fixed with time and money...and this forum.

Not a bad deal at that price I would expect some work to to be needed but you can expect that with any boat .

We are in Choptank, MD right off the river about a 35 minute cruise to the Chesapeake. Thanks for the posts, we are really leaning towards it and considering the first surveyor we found was one the current owner works for it makes me feel a little better.

IMHO you really don't want a surveyor that has ties to the current owner of the boat.

The F36 tri is a great boat, more than likely it's my next boat when I move up.

Welcome to the forum dodgeem!! I'm glad to see another Chesapeaker here. I'm also pretty new to this forum and new to Trojan. These guys here are a wealth of knowledge. On my first day here somebody had the exact problem with their windshield wipers and told me how to fix it.
IMHO I would snatch up a 36 that runs good for 16k.

I don't believe its a Tri he called a sport and it has 440s ( most tri's had smaller engines) so I believe its a F36 convertible

There is a lot of Chesapeake bay boaters here

I agree 104% , with both comments

My advice:

• 1) Get a survey from an independent surveyor (not a surveyor linked to the boat).
  
  2) Big issues are soft decks, soft stringer, worn out 440s (or 383/400's - be sure!).
  
  3) Provide more info - someone here probably knows the boat.
  
  4) Sea Trial her hard ... make sure she can run 20-25 knots and doesn't overheat.

Great advice guys, I really appreciate it, I just went down to the marina again to go over it again. Luckily I am only three miles away. The boat has been started and cleaned but not used for two years(owner bought a newer sea ray two years ago). It does feel like a small soft sopt on the front deck but Ithink it will be accesible from the main stateroom. It has been owned by two friends that are not exactly internet saavy for the past 19 years and I met both gentlemen, not that they would tip their hand on problems but both guys have multiple slips in the same marina and have some pretty high end stuff. I've got a line on a good surveyor from a neighboring county. By the way, what's a fair price for a extensive survey?

Mine usually charges me $20 per foot.

closest I can get is $23 bucks a foot for the survey but I'm still waiting for a few calls back. starting to look at a few others now to see what's out there in the 32-36 foot range.
