Help in Identifying the Hull design on 91 10.8 Meter Express

I am looking for some help from our Trojan historians. I have a 1991 Trojan-Bertram International 10.8 Meter Express. This boats tag says it was made in 1990 at the factory at Lancaster, PA. All documents that came with the boat are from the Trojan-Bertram Yacht Company. This appears to be the 3rd 10.8 Meter Express built. The only 10.8 Meter Expresses I have found are 1991s, so I can only assume the company made them for a year prior to being bought out by Carver.

My boat is currently on the hard. There is an 11 Meter Convertible next to me, and I have a completely different hull design. My chines are much narrower, and as they narrow toward the bow, the extend up toward the anchor area. This boat also has a keel/skeg that extends down about 10 inches and runs down the center about 10 feet. The bow is very sharp, more so than the 11M, and my transom angle is sharper than the 11's also.

I have noticed some differences with this boat from the other 10s on the forum. My exhaust runs to a large muffler system that separates the exhaust from the water. The hot water runs from the muffler system to a hose that discharges next to the V-drives. My exhaust exits the side of the boat, about a foot above the waterline.

The basic interior set-up is about the same as the 10 Meter Mid Cabin, with the systems in about the same spots.

After some guys mentioned replacing their radar arches because of wood rot, I inspected mine, and it is hollow, with no wood.

The longitudinal stringers that the engines are mounted to are L shaped, and appear to be solid fiberglass. They are not enclosed.

Overall, this boat looks very similiar to the Carver version of the express in the 370, 390 boats. I looked at a 1994 Carver Trojan 370, and the hull is similiar but lacks the keel.

So, whats the deal with this change in design? This boat is very limited in production, and my question is the reason for the change and why is it designed the way it is. I have not met another person with this boat.

Here are some examples of a 10 Meter International with the Schoell Delta Conic Hull.

Also refer to the salvage aft cabin photos (79 of them) on the other post.

Does your hull look like this ?

RWS gives one great history lesson... :) A plethora of "Meter" boat information!

I also just put the boat name with his intials. Running With Scissors- cool.

Nope...your boat looks just like the 11M. Beautiful by the way. If I can figure out how to post some pictures, I will put them on. I do not have the wide chines that run the length of the boat like your 10. Plus my narrower chines swoop up in the bow section.

If you are taking the pictures off of a photo site then you should use the

I left the picture out so you could see the set up. Just copy it from photobucket or some other site and paste it here. The picture will show up.

Hopefully this posts...Here are some photos. What do you think of the hull and the reason for the change from the Delta Conic:

The earlier 10.8 meter boats were essentially a stretched version of the 10 meter.

The 10 meter sedan/convertible has a smallish cockpit aft.

The stretch allowed for more of a standard 10 meter sized cockpit.

Schoell & the folks in Lancaster didn't see eye to eye on numerous issues and there was a royalty issue as well between the parties.

Your hull clearly is not the Schoell Delta-Conic design.

I would love to see more photos and hear comments from other International owners.

Perhaps Bob or John Leed can shed some light on your hull design.

hmmmm in looking at the two different hull designs, i wonder if this was a bertram hull rebranded as a trojan international. the chines look similar to bertrams of that era. if they shared the molds, that could explain it. just my two scheckels worth here.

I will post more pictures...The problem is that the boat is now shrink wrapped. I have been feverishly looking throughout the web to try to ID this hull design. The only thing I could come up with is a version of the Bertram. The V is sharper than the other Trojans, and Bertram widely used an extended keel on their boats. This model came out shortly after Bertram and Trojan were taken over by the parent company, so this so far is my closest guess. I have been having problems finding 80's and 90's Bertram hulls out of the water to compare. Here's a couple more photos.

Aaron -

From the front, that looks very similar to the hull photo that you posted of your tri-cabin. I noticed that particularly sine my '79 does not have any chines like that.

Bertram 38 Convertible, a boat Bertram put out shortly after the merger.
What do you think?
