Saw this on another board and some of you may have seen this. But what came to mind, was that in the doldrums of winter and the anxiousness of getting on our boats this spring...to be careful and double check everything we might have missed or problems which may have occured during the winter lay-up, and to be cautious when commissioning our boats.
Tow BoatUS did a great job saving other boats and the marina from further damage.

I have no idea what started this boat to burn but it's an eye opener.

A three boats burned in the Kalama marina here on the Columbia river a few weeks ago.A guy was working on his boat at the time it caught fire.....Very depressing.

Also and unfortunately, there are many people who have lost jobs, etc in this economy and who have been trying unsuccessfully to get out from under the boat. It's too expensive to keep but too valuable to abandon to the yard so.... That's when "Economic Lightning" strikes !

I was very lucky to get a well maintained boat. I am uber paranoid about fumes and fluids. I only found one questionable wire, and it is getting replaced in its entirety.

Very sobering footage and some good thinking by people nearby to move that boat back away from the others.

Have some info...

Based on info I have "heard" through the industry.....
I have no first hand knowledge and as a result please consider this hearsay.

Fire started on Island Boatworks Custom that was to start a re fit early next week."Lisa K" from Providence RI

Fire spread to Viking slip mate "Je Sa Ka" from Road Harbor BVI...she burned to the waterline

Fire then spread to Bertram 57', not sure of the name. She was pulled from her slip to safety...I am sure the owner would have let her go as the damage looks marginal to value.

Lisa K broke free from her slip and drifted across the marina and started a fire on Jarret Bay "Micabe" based in Charleston SC

Somebody has some splaining to do.....

Glad no one was injuired.

Terrible thing. Am I correct in assuming that that was a woodie? I have seen a glass boat burn, and they usually go very quickly right to the water line. She seemed to hold together a long time. Just wondering

Very Unfortunate!

I went down to the boat on the hard for the first time this spring yesterday and was about to plug my charger in when I had thoughts of my engine room bursting into flames and decided to open the hatches for a breather first.

All fiberglass.

All wrong...Island Boatworks builder of the Lisa K built in wood with glass over.

For sure the Viking and Bertram were foam and glass.

Jamie,

I measured for, sold and produced the running gear for this boat.
It was a cold molded wooden boat built on a jig on Hatteras Island NC by Joe Smith and his boys. They were my clients for years....I am quite sure that I am correct, though I can read and see the info you supplied.

The core material for this boat is wood, all surfaces except for teak trim were covered in and sandwiched between fiberglass and west epoxy resin.

Actually made the running gear for the Viking that burned and sunk as well....
