diesel electric repower ??????

has this ever been done? replacing the old gas hogs with a deisel electric generator and 2 electric drive motors

yes But the weight is a killer even on a slow hull and forget it if you want to plane the motors and genset would have to be very large , A straight diesel would be as efficient or better in most cases . there are some hybrid systems that make great claims but , real world they have a way to go .

got it on the rag bag the only time they'll pass a stink pot is when it's at the gas pier (ouch)

snail boat / rag bag Well theres a first Ive heard alot but never those two now dont hold this against me as I own a hunter 23.5 waterballast "snailboat" :P sailed for a few years and now selling it to fund the engine rebuild on my trojan 26 .

Nothing wrong with a sailboat , just made the comment as diesel / electric is only suited for slow displacement type hull and if your trying to save fuel a Sailboat is the best way .

The sailboats in my area run there engines as much as they do there sails and then badmouth the powerboats..., some peoples kids :roll:
