Similar to the Pershing, I have seen a Mangusta. 108' long. Surface drives. The guy who owns Second City comedy clubs (but really made his money from Bingo dabbers as I hear it!) used to keep his Mangusta in Port Dalhousie, near St. Catherines, Ontario. Watched him one day when he decided to go to Toronto for a coffee - about 40 miles away. As this monster left the dock it looked pretty cool. When they hit the throttles, all you could see from behind was a wall of water from the rooster tail. Awesome!
The second favourite : a boat called My Way that runs out of Gananoque Ontario (Thousand Islands). People familiar with the Thousand Islands probably know the boat, and Americans near Alexandria Bay NY probably know it too. Powered by twin Lycoming helicopter turbine engines coupled with surface drives, I think he has broken 200 mph. I have personally taken video of him from a mile away, throwing a rooster tail 50' in the air and at least 200' long. He almost died this year in a near crash (lost it coming off someone's wake), but the boat and its rooster tail - and its sound - are freaking awesome. Google 'my way boat'. You will find a bunch of hits.
The owner - Bill Tomlinson - has been doing this for many years and can handle the speed as well as any professional racer. I felt sick when I read about his crash this summer.
