AC Reverse Polarity Indicator

I know this has come up before . If you would like to replace or install AC Reverse Polarity Indicators On you AC panel here is a good diagram from Blue sea I believe Big D posted this before But I have a up date

One note on the 25k resistor ,IF you use Blue Sea Red LED Indicator light 8066 you do not have to install the resistor as it in the wire of the LED .Same goes with Blue Sea 120 Volt AC Green LED Indicator Light 8034
These cost about 2 bucks a peace .
The do not say this in there catalog or on their online diagram at this time but it will be corrected in the near future . I have spoke to Blue sea about this today .

A link to their page on the wiring diagram

I bought one of these to replace my old Trojan red light. Should fit in the old slot and show red or green indicating polarity.

Larry, do you know if those have the resistor built in?

No I have no idea but they must as their diagram indicates how to hook it up. I tried it with wall voltage and it seems to work correctly indicating green as okay and red as not so much. However that said I cannot actually say it has it, but it works. :D Also I think it will fit the slot of the original with the push button.

You should look into it Larry. The link I posted in the other thread explains why the new standards require the resistor to be there for preventing stray currents. http://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/viewt ... f=1&t=8146

On electrical systems on shore minor stray currents to grounds may not be a issue But on the water its a different story . I would use a min of a 25k resistor with each led on those Larry . Unless they already have them . I do like them btw and resistor are cheap

I can solder the 25k resistor across the spade lug should work, will check with seller first, but might work anyway? What wattage/amperage size resistor should be used.

I do like to see red or green light.

NO !!!!!!!!!!! It should be in series with the led , A low wattage resistor is all you need. I dont think you could find one to small .

Edit the resistor is built in on the blue sea led

Got it, should it be on both leds or just the red one?

Bit by the dumb bug for a minute, resistor provides a higher resistance threshold to exclude the stray small spikes.

Thanks Paul

Paul in your diagram for using the 25K reisitor, how much wattage does it need to be, seems a small one would do as the load does not go across it?

Larry I don't know spec of your LED but it should not need much , as a LED draws very little . Edit the resistor is built in on the blue sea led

You are correct, I will check current draw and size appropriately.
