Hi there
Need some info. I have looked at two trailers. Both dual axle. One needs a little work the other is ready to go.
On is a bunk style the other a roller type.Which style do i need?

I live within 15 miles of where i want to keep it. It will be waterborne 85% of the time unless is needs maintenance or something breaks. Then I can take it to marina and pull it.
Is it worth buying a trailer? The only reason I would need one is to bring it home to work on it.

Trailer #1 Steel construction cost $500 (needs about $300 in work.)

Trailer #2 Steel construction ready to go Cost $800
(there is a catch i have to get rid of stripped boat on it)

Boat hauler cost $300

In general, if you will only be using your trailer for long term storage and the boat will be in the water full time when you are using it, a bunk trailer is preferred. The bunks typically provide a more even distribution of the weight. A bunk trailer will require more water to launch and retrieve though, so the launch ramp you will be using will impact what trailer is best for you. If you end up with the roller trailer, remember to keep the winch strap connected to the boat until the stern of the boat is in the water. With a steep ramp the boat could roll right off the trailer and onto the concrete ramp if the winch strap is disconnected too soon (I've seen it happen).

I personally like having a trailer. At $300 per trip for a boat hauler, you will have your money back after three trips. With a trailer though you will also need a tow vehicle capable of towing at least 6500 lbs. If you don't already have a tow vehicle, then paying the boat hauler may be less expensive overall.

regarding disposal of hull on trailer. I checked down here in texas and several dumps will take hulls and crush them in landfill. Seems two ways of charging. On is so much per ton, in my case $40 per ton and $25 to drag boat off trailer. The other is by cubic feet, and yes they calculate it by the hull size which is very expensive. Google landfills in your are and call them, then you will know for sure.

That trailer is approx 25' overal. Weight should not
be a problem I am I'm gutted. Just engine inside guessing
I weigh approx 4000 lbs

I measure approx 21 ft from bow to where engine ends
In cockpit (v-drive set up). The trailer measures approx that
From bow support to end aft wheels.

How much overhang can I have ?

With saw and piece meal to dump.

I don't think a 25' trailer will be long enough. I have a 30' trailer and the transom is at the back of the trailer. If I don't bring the boat all the way to the bow stop and the transom is past the end of the trailer, the trailer tongue has a tendency to lift into the air.

I definitely have to consider balance here. Thanks for the help.

Ok after much investigation and money crunching I decided to go with boat hauler this year. Will keep looking for trailer...

Probably a good idea. My wife used to hate the fact that we had a triple axle boat trailer lounging in our back yard.

trailering saves allot of money, bunk trailers are the best, low maintence, i used to trailer my 79 Silverton F26 myself with a Dodge Ram 1500 with a dual or single axel trailer, I like not realying on a hauler especially if you consider hauling for hurricanes

Please let me know if you have any idea where I can find a good used Roadworthy trailer at a reasonable price that will fit my 1980 F26 Trojan Hardtop.
