I installed a batter isolation switch. Off 1 2 both.
I have two deep cycle grp 31. I jumper the neg together. Then
Connected the positive leads to the switch position 1 and 2.

The output of the switch geodes to the positive side of the starter
Relay. I connected the engine neg to the neg terminal on battery 1.

With the switch in the 1 or both position the eng rolls. When I go to position 2
Nothing happens. But I get a spark on the positive terminal of battery 1

Any idea why?

You've got a short. If you've got your wiring done right it could be in the switch.

Was thinking that but it's a new switch.
Where is the starter tie into? It's currently on the common output.

Should each battery have it's own separate ground to engine ?

Could be a bad connection on battery 2 or battery 2 could be dead . As far as that spark at battery 1 could that be really battery 2 ( or hooked up to #2 on the switch ) that would explain it all . spark = bad connection and would explain nothing happening on position 2

No, it the positive lead from the starting battery which is hooked o position #1
It only happens when selected to position 2 and I try to start.
The positive lead on the starting battery sparks. It sounds like when you touch two positive leads together.

The position 1 and both position work fine.

Disconnect all the connections from the switch and check continuity of the switch positions---- really the only way you can have a spark is a short ,bad connection or crossed wiring---- I have had these switches bad right from the box----Mike

When do you get the spark on bat. 1 ? Is it when you try and crank it on bat. 2 ? What else is hooked up to the battery pos at the bat ? Is it posable to post a photo of your set up .

It doesn't get any easier than this. I have a picture of my wiring in my photobucket which includes four battery two bank set up, with a 12v distribution block with all house loads that run off either bank, either bank
Will start engine, positive to engine must be on common, not one or two.

Could be a bad switch but something is a little puzzling; usually a spark occurs because there is a gap due to a poor or loose connection, or corrosion, failed insulation, etc. Otherwise a short usually just generates heat and burns or trips something. Are you sure you have good, tight, clean connections at every terminal in the circuit? Don't say "wing nuts" and "finger tight" Did you replace any of the cables or add new ones? If so, what gauge wire did you use, and how did you attach the terminal lugs?

I Agree Big D . I also feel When the switch is on 2 its pulling only from battery 1 and losing connection .

The bluesea 9001e is the one I have. Only bilge pumps hooked to batteries. I removed them. There was no change.

The only thing i change was to add the common output to the starter and the ground from the engine block to the neg terminal on the battery..

Will do check and get back to everyone today.....

Ok I took everything apart and hooked up each battery one at a time and tested it. No problems.
Then I hooked every thing together. I had one spark. I tightened connector with wrench.
Everything tests good in all positions.
