I have a 1985 f32 with T/270. My port engine will run fine for approx. 20mis, it then starts varying rpms from 2900-1000 until it dies under aload. I can restart and it runs fine with no load on it, if I put a load and exceed 1400rpms it will stop again. I have tried changing fuel filters and run both fore and aft tanks with same results. Does anyone have suggestions on what may be causing this problem?

Have you cleaned all the jets in the carb?

I have same boat, year and engines. Where do I start...lol
Be sure tanks not being drawn from, are shut off, antisyphon valves clog, you have 2 other fuel filters besides the fuel/water separator that clogs on that Crusader...there are a few other issues but probably not what is causing your issue. My bet is clogged AS valves.

Try a new coil. I have had this same kind of problen in the past and it turned out to be a weak coil. Everything was fine untill the engine compartment got hot, then the coil would start to break down and the engine would act like it was vapor locking. Idled fine but would fail under a load.

Where are the A/S valves on that boat?

Run your boat with the engine hatches open. If the problem does not show up, bad coil. If problem still there, fuel issue.

Follow the fuel line to the top of the fuel tanks. It looks like a brass fitting, has a spring and valve in it. It's between the line and tank fitting. Easily cleaned or replaced. Don't omit this valve from the system!

I have used a bag of ice on a coil to cool it down.

I replaced carb filter and cartridge filter, problem appears to be fixed. We went for a 4hr run at 20mph, no problem. Thank-You all for the great info..
