Well I launched on Tuesday Finally, had a 6 mile run to my marina, boat ran great, throttled up to 1700 rpm, was running at 14.2 knots on GPS. After a minute or so the engine synchronizer was showing 1700 on port and 1700 on starboard engines, the synchronizer was actually showing the numbers not flashing lights , my question is if the rpm and engine sync are showing the same thing whats the point of the engine sync when I can just set the throttles at the same rpm and not worry what the engine sync is showing or is this just confirmation that they are truly running at the same rpm, my trojan F26 was a single screw so it had no engine sync. Also is it normal on these flybridge boats to not have fuel gages on the flybridge, there are fuel gages on the lower station, just thought this strange. The company hauling my boat to the marina got pulled over by the O.P.P. The arranged price to move the boat about 10 miles is $150.00, but they got $600.00 in fines for not having the proper permits and markings for "Wide Load". Eventually we got it to the marina after about 1 1/2 hr delay. Man I love this F32

Been there.............Done that but not with an F32. With a John Deere 220 excavator. Cop got mad cause I held him up going up a long hill, so he pulled me over to check permits. Had none cause it was a holiday weekend. Lost our arse on that deal!

Most engine synchronizers you find on our boats just tell you the rpm or differences of rpm or flash . .Its up to the operator to get the engines in sync . The do make true engine synchronizers that do the job them selves , they normally have electronic controls where you use 1 lever to control both engines when turned on . You normally find these on some high end boats or newer boats with EFI

Here is a picture of the synchronizer. Not the best pic but all I have right now, will take a better one this weekend. Yesterday I removed the name on the back of the boat. Now it's time to choose a name.

Never appreciated my President was a high end boat
It has a Glendinning synchronizer you describe, it is so convenient to have that tool do the matching while I change speed with one control... On the F32 I have to adjust my throttles manually to sync the flashing lights.

The Glendinning synchronizers are a nice unit ( not cheap ) , The electronic controls can be a liltle touchy around the docks until you get used to them .


Happy ours , I belive your unit is basicly a twin tach that you use to get both engines at the same rpm . the Gsynchronizing is in your hands .

As Paul says, most synchs are just there to tell you if you are off... Original synch on my F32 did this by lights (to show if one engine was running faster), current synch is an analog gauge and the needle points towards whatever engine is going faster (if its straight up I am in synch). Sounds like your 'synch' is more of a 'dual tach'.

Re the OPP and your hauling company : At 13' beam, the F32 is officially a wide load. If your hauling company didn't know that, they aren't a very good hauling company. If they knew that and decided to chance it instead of getting the right permits, they aren't a very good hauling company.

I'd also be a little concerned about the teeny tiny pickup pulling an F32 plus that trailer... I would guess it was also pulling more than its rated weight... but the operator decided he could save a few bucks if he was only going a few miles... Another reason not to use them again.

One last point I guess ..... over time you will learn how to synch the engines by ear and the instrumentation will only help confirm that.... At idle speeds the instrumentation may still be needed, but at running speeds you will her a droning sound (waaaahhwaaaahwaaaah) if the engines are out of synch. The faster the droning sound is, the more out of synch you are. The slower it is, the closer you are to being in synch. If there is no droning sound, you are synched up good!

While running I tend to do things by ear. I really only use the synch gauge when I am near the docks, so I know the boat will respond reliably as I work the gears for close quarters maneuvering.

Thanks for all the responses guys. That is what I thought, that the synchronizer was just another tach, just confirms what the boat tachs are doing, over time I will get familiar with the sound of the engines and if they are in sync. As for the hauling company it was a one shot deal, the previous owner set it up to move the boat to the lake from his farm where the boat was stored for the winter, usually the boat is hauled and winterized at my marina a short 600 ft move and his equipment is first rate. Well time to head up to the boat and spend the first night on her, the wife has only been on the boat once about 6 weeks ago to take a look but it was under tarp, I know she is going to love it so much more room than my F26.
