starboard engine problem

I was going to take the boat out with some family members today for the first time and boat started fine as usual.
ran it for about twenty minutes and untied and eased out.
Just got out of the slip and the starboard engine quit. I tried and tried but she would not restart so we had the port engine and in the middle of a lot of boats but
with the help of some people on the dock we managed to tie her up on the river. I kept trying as she almost would start but didn't so then I thought she was flooded. I let her rest awhile.
I pulled the coil wire and held her close to the block and she had a ton of spark so I was convinced that I just flooded her.
We went to get something to eat and I stopped and bought some engine start. same thing-won't start-to me that means electronic so I switched rotors-no go.
I replaced the distributer cap-no start.
I pulled the plugs and saw they were soaking wet so I pulled them all and dried them off and thought that had to be it.
no start. I made up my mind I would have to have shumway look at it.I drove home for awhile but then went back it to get the manual.
I lifted the floor door and tried it again and I saw sparks coming from the coil at the coil end like it was arcing onto itself. Not the distributor end.
I have electronic ignition so there are no points but acts like when your points are shot.
I will replace the coil tomorrow any other things I should look for?
any help.
thanks

Thanks prowlersfish.
Funny how fate plays a hand. I have spare rotors and distributor caps, fuel filters, oil filters-extra hoses for the cooling system and resistors but no coil.
I was a little POed as I really worked on her to get her ready. Right next to me in the next slip is a morse Sailboat which are all custom made-brand new.
$580K for this one. I had the heebie jeebies for a few seconds stuck in the middle of all those boats with one engine, gets kinda scary as you don't want to hit any other boat.My first time out here and I had to have help embarrassed me a little. I know one thing and that is if this happens again on open water I am going to have a spare of everything-sparkplug wires and coils and coil wires. I will see if I can get a coil for it today. the number he has for it is -2444242-. Happy boating to you my friend.

+1

I was about to day the same thing. Be careful testing you coil and plugs like that. Gas fumes like to accumulate low in the bilge. Run you blower for at least 10 minutes.

thanks-I thought of that and did exactly that last night.
I always run the blower for awhile if I even smell the slightest hint of gas.
That usually smells like that when she is flooded.
I have not had a chance to go down to the boat yet today and it is almost 3 P.M. and I have to pick up my eyeglasses at 4 so I won't even get to the boat until 6P.M. or later.
Even if I get her running I will have to wait until my son and daughter in law come down on tuesday evening to get here back into the slip.
This slip here is way to tight for me to bring her in alone.

Hey Todd
thanks for the offer,I appreciate it.
I thought I posted before but I don't see it yet.
I went down there today after finding a 440 chrysler ignition coil.
Shumay didn't have one and west marine didn't have one
anyway I found one and bought sparkplug wires also for the 440 chrysler and it came with the ignition coil.
I installed the coil after running the blowers for about 5 minutes and didn't even try the coil wire right away as I had to see if that was it.
As soon as the switch made contact she fired up and I was happy as a little kid.
I ran her for awhile to charge up the battery and then shut her down and replaced the coil wire also.
she started right up again so thanks for all the advice-I'm a happy camper right now but I can't move her from the river to the marina until tomorrow when my son and daughter-in law get out of work.-much to close here to try by myself as the river current is really strong here. Right next to me is a morse custom made sailboat brand new-----385K-ouch!-would hate to run into her.
I am going to get another coil and replace the one on the other engine and keep the one I take off as a spare.
thanks again
