New or Used Generator? Where to buy

I have finally given up on my old Kohler. The unit in my boat is the original 1969 model...it ran pretty good for the first couple of years that I owned the boat (after much work), then a couple of years ago it froze during the winter. I just replaced the head gaskets and rewired the entire unit...and it is still pushing water into the combustion chambers. I am pretty sure it is an internal crack in the head (flathead), but I am honestly tired of fighting it. I would like to find a MUCH more modern unit. I would be willing to consider a lightly used unit, though I am not very excited about taking on another project. New units appear to be enormously expensive...but I do really want power. The old unit is a 6.5k, I am currently running a fridge/freezer, one a/c unit (would like to add another), 3 bank smart charger, 110 volt sound system, and other misc. power (lights, etc.). Any suggestion as to what size I should be looking for and more importantly where the best place is to get one??? New or used???

Thanks!

My factory MCCK 6.5 was nothing but trouble and unreliable due to a lack of maintenance by the P.O.

Attempts to repair were met with broken off/snapped bolts.

Bit the bullet in 2003 and upgraded to a DIESEL 5.5 kW unit.

That genny averages about 100 hrs a year and has about 1300 hours now.

Other than capacitors, only major problem was a head gasket this year.

With a GEN SEP it's quieter than the MCCK !
