Low water Conditions in Rideau Waterway

Hi,

Due to current drought conditions, Parks Canada announced last week that in the lower section of the Rideau Waterway (from Newboro to Kingston) only four feet of water depth can now be guaranteed over the sills entering the locks. Usually, the guaranteed water depth is five feet.

The northern section of the Rideau Waterway (Newboro to Ottawa) remains unaffected.

This will impact those boaters located in the Thousand Islands region, Lake Ontario, Trent Waterway System and Ottawa River areas who were planning a trip to the Rideau Lakes.

Crazy....the northeast is in drought mode. In syracuse, they are saying this is the second drying summer in recorded history. We're still able to use the canal system, but a few marinas and parks aren't accepting transients due to low water levels. Today starts 7 days in the canal for me...hopefully it involves rain to. Never thought i'd be hoping for rain on a vacation! Good luck up there!
