Ed, Lots of possibilities here. I own a "74 model and have found some sources of water leaks in this area but not all of them, yet. Here are the ones I know. Obvious locatons are back and side windows. Check for deteriorated sealent in the back windows (mounted into the bulkhead), and, check th...

I agree, the F36, in a follwing sea, is quite differant due to the hull length vs width. The F32 is rather beamy at 13 feet. More transom width and less keel length for stability. the F36, being longer with the same 13 foot beam handles better. More hull, more control. Less yawing. Still gives the h...

Dean, My recommandation to Neal regarding a "short block" vs. him trying to rebuild the lower end himself is; 1, It takes a lot of expertise to rebuild a block 2, lots of high priced equipment (check out a local mechine shop). 3, the first thing a mechine shop does, once it is dis-assenble...

Tuck, The engine alignment proceedure is not expensive. It is a matter of adjusting the engine mounts to the exact position to provide a perfect fit at the coupling. This must be done with the boat IN THE WATER. As RWS say's, you need to know why it is out of alignment. The first thing I would check...

Most common cause for the vibration is a dinged prop. Next, I would say would be engine alignment followed by bent shaft or worn out cutless bearings. To check the prop, shaft or cutless bearing you need to haul the boat. Engine alignment can be checked by seperating the shaft coupling. If there is ...

Neal, The saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" may apply here. First of all the engine hour meter says 1700 hours. But, is that from new or was the engine majored at some point or even replaced? You may be right and not need a block. Or, anything else for that matter. How do you know i...

Neal, unless you have the proper tooling for rebuilding the lower end (like an engine machine shop) and, most importantly, the "know how" I suggest you buy a remanufactured "short block" and rebuild the rest of your engine from there. Having a machine shop do the heads is also a ...

Tuck, I agree with most that has been said here about Trojans. The only point I would make is the F32 is a differant boat compared to the F36 and they are about the same cash. My wife and I looked at a nice F32 and where going to buy it until my research showed I could by a 36 tricabin for the same ...

Tuck, Not a bargain but with low hours on the rebuilt 400"s the price sounds good. Rebuilding the engines is a minimum 10K depending on the extent of the rebuild (short blocks, vs long blocks, etc). Sure wish I could be floating. The ice in my slip is about 8" thick right about now. Good l...

Tuck, You have said 13.5 to the dock. 1.5 to the water. That would be 15 feet, not 14, right? If so, it will prbably work. Two considerations, 1, Height of ypur canvas bridge enclosure? 2, is this measurement at "High water"? Remember, if the boathouse cover is fixed, the height will chang...

Tuck, Regardless of insurance requirements, you should reconsider doing a full survey for your own protection. One of the most important parts of the boats condition is structural. I did not go into detail before because I thought you would have a qualifed Surveyer. As mentioned here, a full moistur...

Prowlerfish, I agree some clutch drag on a stright shaft may not be serious. However, this model, I believe, has V-drives. If clutch drag is turning the propshaft through the V-drive I would suspect the plates could be warped. IMHO. Jimbo.

Tuck, Nice looking boat. I have owned many Chris Crafts, Great boats depending on the vintage. I can tell you from what you have said about what you want the boat for (live aboard) there is no doubt the Trojan is a better choice. By the way, the boat you are looking at is not a "tri cabin"...

Trwiz, What was the reason for replacing your galvanized tanks? I have owned many old Chris Crafts with galvanized tanks without problems. Now you guys have me wondering about the 2, 80 gallon galvanized tanks in my F36 tri cabin. In fact, the only boat I owned with tank problems was my Chris Craft ...
