Help me please
Just bought a 1978 F 26 this season . The problem is that it idles fine but when I get up to 3000 rpm it losses rpm like it is starving from fuel .I replaced here we go New Fuel pump ,fuel filters , carb rebuild ,new plugs ,wires ,cap ,rotor button ,ballast resister, coil ,spark control mod. ,drain out old fuel (boat was setting for two years ) and pick up tube in tank . if you can help please it's driving us crazy. It has a 318 in it we love the boat . It ran fine when we put it in the water in June.

Re: Help me please
Have you replaced the filter since the problem started ? Check the check valve at the tank too

Re: Help me please
I had a problem similar to this years ago that was due to debris caught in the anti-siphon valve. This valve is the first fitting after the elbow on top of your fuel tank. It looks just like a standard fitting to connect the flared fuel line however it has a spring and check ball in it in which debris can get trapped and starve the system for fuel.
Hope this helps,

Re: Help me please
Martino,
Is there a chance that you have debris moving around in the bottom of the fuel tank that can intermittently obstruct the end of the pick up tube?

Re: Help me please
Is there a filter at the carb? Check it.
I had debris in mine, even though it is preceded by two other filters. Similar symptoms.

I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
Re: Help me please
This was the fuel filler neck of my starboard tank and you can see it was also inside the tank.

Re: Help me please
Had same problem with my ‘77 F26 HT I bought in 1999. Original fuel tank was galvanized steel and previous owners kept on limiting the amount of gas in the tank by repeatedly only keeping the tank partially filled. Over time condensation started corrosion on the inside of the tank and that crud kept on gunking up the line. Under load like at 3000 rpm it was too much for carb to handle and result was hesitation at anything over 1500 rpm. Temporary fixes like dry gas carb cleaning etc did not fix the problem. But a new tank did! Boat has run fine for the past 18 years at all speeds.

Re: Help me please
I second Boppy, make sure there is no galvanized steel and pull the tank clean/replace it. I fought this fight for 2 years and 2 new tanks and 2 clean tanks fixed the problem. I believe the galvanized pipe fill tube was the ground zero that started the problem. Best of luck
