Are you trying to match colour, grain, or both?

Pine will look yellow . teak or mahogany would be the closest . You can always stain to match .

I've ordered the teak plywood from here before
http://www.buckwoodcraft.com/teak-venee ... thick.html
They boxed and shipped to any address with a dock. I think the last I bought was 4+ yrs ago and it was not cheap, but a perfect match to the teak in the boat.

Might be a side track to what you are doing... but Cetol is a good 'evener'..... If you use regular Cetol vs varnish on most finishes, it ends up (after 3-4 coats) to take on pretty much the same colour. I have used it on Teak, Mahogany, and Oak... and after a few coats they all look the same (except for grain).

I am just finishing up a couple galley panels, the original woodwork is cherry stained mahogany plywood. Not being too concerned with the grain as I'm adding doors , I used birch. Not the long grain as the mahogany. I got a really close color match using, in this order, minwax red mahogany, one coat, one coat Sherwin williams orangewood , two coats traditional cherry. I did A LOT of samples, and combinations before I got it. Down the line someone had been using teak oil to bring back a little color, I think that's where the orange was throwing me off. Good luck

Not sure what year your boat is but here is a little info that worked for our 78 f32--- I had to clean up all the worn teak inside etc and read that the original stain used was the same as the Min Wax Red Oak, well it is a dead ringer as I used the red oak on all the panels and it matched perfectly ---- try it on what ever new panels you make if you have that stain in your boat to see if it matches----Happy New Year--- Mike

Try using Cherry wood, just a clear coat on it looks very close to what the teak looks like in your boat.

I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT Min Wax Red Oak is a dead on MATCH!

In fact it was so dead on, I restained all the wood in my cabin!

i think i used red oak in the last boat to match up some trim pieces and if i remember correctly it was a dead ringer but in this boat
we are doing something a bit different
we are going to varnish every square inch of wood with cptn's varnish i love the way it looks when you
sand smooth and apply 3 to 6 coats it has a bit of a darker look
i guess the cpt's varnish already has a stain in it
so it may not matter what type of wood i use if it stains it in the process
i got a stick of pine and a stick of oak i can do i little testing on
but probably going with birch for the wood panels

Add another to the red oak category. Just tried it. Exact.
Although I do miss the honey look.

Maybe I'm really wrong, but referring to the F32, wasn't most of the interior wood mahogany??

would love to know for certain because of some work I'm doing this winter.....

cheers

You may be correct ,I will check my option sheet when we get home----- all I can say for sure is the red oak stain matched the factory original interior panels perfectly---Mike

I second mikes statement on the mahogany. It 'looks" like teak, the original owner thought it was teak, heck i thought it was teak. But with the panels removed it was pretty obvious on the back unfinished side. Still very attractive finish though,
