Bad start to a new season!!

Post by gofish103 »

put the boat in the water this past Saturday, went for a short run to blow out the cob webs. Ran great and was excited to get busy cleaning things up and spending the first night of the season on the boat. Well..........things went from great to bad quickly!!!!!!!!! pulled into the dock and my wife and neighbor were getting the lines ready. Well, i decided to lend a hand and stepped off the boat onto the dock, missing the dock and catching the edge of the concrete dock with my ribs. Thought I had just knocked the wind out of myself, but a trip to to the ER an hour later reveiled that I had broken 5 ribs on my left side!!!!!!!!! In 43 years i have never felt anything that hurts so bad!! it hurts to think!!! Doc's say 6 to 8 weeks to heal!

So please!!!!!!!!!!!! Be careful!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me it is not worth the risk!!!!

I feel for ya man. The first weekend after my dad retired, he and my uncle went fishing and when remove the rods and tackle etc. out of the boat on the trailor at the boat ramp, my dad went to step down on the wheel well of the trailor, missed it and broke his hip, less then a three foot fall. Amazing how easy it is to mess up ones body. Hope you break the record for healing up.

Ouch indeed. Sister-in-law did a similar thing last year - went to board the boat and ended up falling down between the boat and the dock and cracked three ribs when she bounced off the dock. She is 67 and still sore.

Be careful - it s a long season!

Unfortunately I know what you're going through. Just take it easy and let the ribs heal. If only you didn't have to breathe, sleep, etc. things wouldn't hurt so much all of the time. My worst time ever was having a head cold a few weeks into it and sneezing and coughing. So, take your pain killers and don't be shy about getting the doc to prescribe even heavier duty ones if you need them.

Very sorry to hear about your accident, and hope you recover very quickly. Getting on and off our boat is one of my greatest fears for my wife. I am very careful doing it myself.

Take care,

You have my sympathy. Ribs are so very painful, no comfortable position and they hurt every time you breathe. 5 weeks. Hang in there.
