Canvas for 10 Meter
I need to redo my top and canvas.
I'm looking for ideas. The helm area to the radar arch is covered by a bimini top attached to some eisinglass windows. The area behind the radar arch has a canvas piece that connects to the transom. This is a bit low for use and most likely was designed to keep the boat clean.
I like the open cockpit, but would like some added shade.
What are other boats using? RWS looks like he has some kind of bimini top for his cockpit. Does that drop down or stow?
Also, would it be a good idea to get some kind of cover to prolong the life of the eisenglass windows? The old ones I have now are really tough to see through.
Thanks in advance for the input.

I like to call mine a "convertible,as both the fwd bimini and the rear will fold up and disseapear.
The rear one can also be easily removed for fishing, gets those poles out of the way.
The factory front bimini atttached at the windshield giving little airflow and cooked you in the sun. In the rain or cold you had to run the boat from the seat, couldn't stand up.
The fwd bimini extends out bayond the top windshield frame, allowing airflow and creating shade. HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE SUMMER!

I have a full camper setup on mine
.... that the previous owner installed. I don't like the way it looks but it protects the entire deck of the boat from the sun and rain. The built in screens are nice as well.
I almost never run with it up so my wife and I have gotten pretty good about getting on/off quickly. A lot of canvas to find room for on the boat though.
RWS, do you have a closer picture of the front bimini overhang? That would be a nice upgrade, I know exactly what you mean about the cooking effect.

Hello all!
Actually, I am a marine fabricator (canvas guy) as my profession. So I 've done boats like yours before.
Do you have at least 1" thickwall stainless steel framing on the front, and is it in good condidtion? Your front framing is probably ok, but as for the windows, it is a good practice to use 40 ga. Strataglass. About all of our jobs up here in northern Ohio are 40 ga. Strataglass.
Next with the back of the boat, you could go with a brow, which is about a 3-4ft bimini off the back of the arch and with a 3 piece aft curtain down to the back of the boat. This way you have whats called "wings" so its not so big, and it helps when you bring bags and coolers onboard. Or you could go with a camper back, but for your wide span of the transom, go with 1 1/4" thickwall SS framing. This can support a long, wide top from the arch. The brow framing would probably attatch to the base of the arch in your application.
With a camper back you can make side curtains such as canvas panels, glass panels, seperate screen panels, or screened-in-U-Shapes. So the possabilities are endless.
The bad part about a camper back is that theres a TON of canvas to store, and its a lot more money versus the brow and the aft curtain.
Hope that helps you out

The two bars attached to the front deck are on swivels that allow them to fold up and snap onto the front bimini tube.
The base of the side attachments for the forward bow on the front bimini is now mounted on a "slide".
The entire assembly can be folded back against the radar arch after sliding the forward bimini back.
Put the boot on and the entire wad of canvas dissapears.
here's some pictures. I'll take some more with the detail if anyone wants them....

I'm looking at your setup. If I extend my top past the windshield, I'm going to have to move my running light?
