ENTERPRISE GETS HER NAME.... FINALLY. (PIC INCLUDED)
yes, her name is ENTERPRISE even though the transom has been blank for sometime. my original goal was to have the letters put on last year during chemo/radiation treatment while she was hauled. i had the letters, just did not have anyone willing to do the transfer if they did not make up the letters. fast forward to about 3 weeks ago and saw a guy putting letters on a sea ray a few slips away. i engaged him in conversation, and he said he would have no problem putting on a transfer that someone else made up. finally our schedules dovetailed, and today, is the official day that ENTERPRISE has her name on the transom. for you trekkers out there, you will notice that the lettering, right down to the black with red outlines, is the typeface used from 'star trek: the motion picture', onward. the font is 'federation standard', a.k.s microgamma bold outline. i chose the offset to port so that the swim ladder did not interfere with the name. i'm pretty proud at how well it turned out. tomorrow is the official denaming/renaming. then, her first cruise with the official name applied to her. (and yes, i know my swim platform needs to be sanded and finished. it's on my list of things to do before layup. i just don't have the mobility i did prior to treatment. )
anyway, thought i'd share this with the gang.

Too bad you're not in North Carolina, with registration number C1701.......
Looks nice Aaron. I second the offset.

Great AAron, my f28 is gonna get her new name very soon. Removed the old one and still need to have that celebration then the new one will go on and of course another celebration. Don't want to piss off Nepture or Posidon!

Re: ENTERPRISE GETS HER NAME.... FINALLY. (PIC INCLUDED)
the marina was fairly populated yesterday while bill was putting the name on. everyone that walked by said they thought it looked great. i'm really pleased at how well it turned out. RE: the registration number. i actually did try with the maryland department of natural resources to get her number changed to read MD 1701 xx, but, believe it or not, it's already taken. the guy at the dundalk office tried everything, but, in the end, he could not. he did remark that it was a great idea. he suggested that i keep trying as numbers are surrendered and then recycled eventually. you never know. the more i look at it, the more i like the offset and the left justify of the hailing port. we actually dry fitted the port to be center of the name, but it did not look right. i said, ''i've always thought that the port should offset with the name". bill agreed once we retried the dry fit with the hailing port left justified to the name. it just worked. i cannot wait to take her out this weekend and show her off.P-Dogg wrote:Too bad you're not in North Carolina, with registration number C1701.......

true larry, very true. i will be doing the same this weekend. i won't be passing out 'trojan condoms' for the renaming, but, i think the idea is well worth the fun factor. on second thought..................larryeddington wrote:Great AAron, my f28 is gonna get her new name very soon. That's looks great , smart thinking with the offset it matches perfect. we just installed our recently also , the guy that made ours charged $20.00 so figured if I screwed it up I could afford to retry it. soapy water helped adjust and work out the bubbles. Named our boat after the fisherman in the JAWS movie

That looks fantastic, Aaron! I especially like the left justify. It adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

Re: ENTERPRISE GETS HER NAME.... FINALLY. (PIC INCLUDED)
what i actually want to do is pay honor to 'the big e' in addition to my love of star trek. i'd really like to get a replica of the vessels patch and mount it somewhere in the cabin. cvn-65 holds special value for me not only because she was such a great aircraft carrier, but, she was the first atomic powered carrier, but the world's longest. i'm honored to pay tribute to her by naming my vessel, ENTERPRISE.prowlersfish wrote:I do like the offset .
