1974 F32 Sea Strainer?

Post by rossjo »

Finally cool enough to work on the F32.

Worked Sat and Sun - and last job before a cruise was cleaning the sea strainers. Port strainer's gasket tore, so I quickly made a poor replacement that leaks a bit. Want to get new gaskets, but have no idea what strainer I have.

These strainers are a PITA, and I have no idea what brand/model they are. I tried Google image search for "Sea Strainer" and couldn't find a match for these old strainers. They're bronze, draw water from the bottom and water exit is on the top. They have 4 long bolts around the "glass" with 4 wings nuts on top that must removed to clean the screen, by lifting the entire top (with water fittings) off of the glass. The water exit at the top is right in the middle, and there is a 90 degree elbow above that that make it hard to get to one of the wing nuts, so they are very difficult to clean. For now, I'd just like to find out if these are original (or changed with diesel conversion) and what brand/model they were (or were they some of Noah's leftovers)?

The "glass" is 3-1/2" OD and open on both ends, and looks very much like this:

I've look at Groco and Perko photos and don't see anything like these ...

What does everyone else have on their 1970's F32 or F36?

Thank you in advance ...

I have not seen a strainer like that. Strainers were not a standard part on Trojan F boats . Maybe a option ? . Perhaps the were made by H&S ? , the company that made the conversation kit for your engines ?

I will look at my oder parts books to seen if come up with any info .

Here's one reference to a match, but no numbers. Why not call Perko, email them a photo and inquire...?

Yes, its an odd-duck ...

Paul, I didn't find any info Google-ing H&S Strainers ... and I have no info from the conversion on the strainers ....

Jamie - that is exactly where I grabbed those 2 pictures ... ;)

I will pick up some decent gasket material and make a couple of gaskets today to get by (and stop the leak).

Appreciate the help guys ...
