Haven't got around to it yet. But I did pay twice last year -- really.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Me too, as well as a few others.

My thought is...

There are members here who choose to not participate. And that's fine...no prodding anymore, if you want to support financially, great. If not, so be it.

I think that $20.00 per year, per member, should be signified with a "Gold" supporter signature. Those who wish to participate with $10.00 would be signified with a "Silver" supporter signature. ( a tiered structure)This may entice those on the fence to gold full gold. It's your choice either way. And, it helps Bob and Don and more importantly, us! But the bottom line, is to support if you can.

I'm sorry but I had no idea there were dues. Where have I been? Who knows. I guess I just haven't kept up.

Before I waste time finding out how to pay - just shortlist the instructions to me and I'll pony up.

It's not 'dues'.... but the forum does cost a few bucks to operate and maintain. A couple of years ago the Beacon guys decided to start hosting banner ads on the site (that they got paid for hosting) to raise the money to cover costs. They had no control over what was advertised... they just provided a mechanism for advertising it. Many of us found some of the ads were somewhat not of a 'family' nature (for example : boobsy Russian babes looking for North American husbands), that we decided to start a system of donation to cover costs, so the banner ads were not needed.

It's a donation, not a fee... some people feel they don't participate enough in the forum that they feel like donating; others participate a lot and just have something in their heads about not contributing because if they can get it for free they will take it... But in general, the concept is if you feel this forum is beneficial and want to see it continue, a contribution or donation to help support keeping it up and running is appreciated by the guys behind the scenes (or the Russian sluts and equally socially unacceptable ads come back). The Beacon guys certainly aren't getting rich on keeping the forum going, but they are helping and facilitating a lot of us sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences. In my mind, it only makes sense to help them give us what we are looking for!

To contribute, you can go to Beacon web site using this link (unless I messed it up) https://www.trojanboats.net/zencart/ind ... 150203bf33 and click on the 'Contribution to Forum' item... then follow instructions (making sure to put your forum username in the comments section when checking out so you get credit...)

As was pointed out last year (by Don himself), you can support the site by purchasing from Beacon. It will have the same effect as paying forum "dues." They have enough to pay the forum operating costs either way.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the tiered structure. I would like to see past years' supporter banner left up though. More years contributing (via dues) equals more bragging rights.

And no problem not owning a Trojan brand boat. I was a (dues paying) member before I even bought a boat.
