International - shorepower switch

Post by BobCT »

Do any of you guys have a shore power selector switch that looks like this? It's made by an Italian company called Breter. I'm trying to figure out the wiring for this from L1 and L2 and each breaker inside the panel. I have the factory wiring diagram but I think it's a different switch. Todd confirmed his is different too. Maybe this was a replacement? I can't find a part # that will lead me to a wiring diagram and because of the mismatch w/ the factory diagram, the #''s on the switch are useless.

My burning questions is, why would you need/want to select only "1" instead of "Both"? Does this provide 30amp to the whole boat or just 1/2 of the panel? Then it's becomes a 50amp service when switched to "Both"? You can tell I never actually put it to use before.

If someone has this switch AND feels like looking inside their panel, maybe I can keep this one although it does seem a little cheap. I'm not crazy about the terminal connections. How did I get into this mess you ask? Broken label maker coupled with notes I can't read. I know it's a total of 4 wires connected but I think one is doubled up.

thanks

Bob,

My switch is totally different.

as I recall, it is more similar to these styles:

However if it will help you, I will be happy to remove my cover and take a few pix to help you out.

I use this switch. I have one power cable when I stay at nearby marinas. It powers both panels but you need to watch how many things you run at once or you will trip the breaker. I turn off the AC when I turn on the water heater. So far it has worked out fine. I will look at my switch when I can get on my boat. It's iced in solid for the first time I since I've owned her.

Harris - thanks for the offer but I'll take John up on his offer.

John, if it's not too much trouble, that would be great. I'll send you an email.

thanks
