Converting a Trojan 26 from a single to a dual engine???

Post by BottomsUp2 »

Ok I'm new to the site and new to the Trojan Boat family. I have a 77 Trojan 26 it currently has a single V8 and I was wondering is it possible to convert to a dual engine set up? If so has anyone tried it?

Twin V8 inboards would be a tight squeeze in this boat. The F-26 was available with twin I/Os from the factory but I don't think that they were V8s. It also involved raising the floor over these engines. Converting one of these boats to twin inboards would also be an extremely expensive thing to do correctly. You would also be loosing space for water and fuel tanks as well.

Personally I wouldn't do it. If you really want twin screws, I'd suggest stepping up in boat size.

On the extreme side of things, I once saw a single screw ChrisCraft (similar to the F-26) which had the engine replaced with a diesel generator and two electric motors, shafts, props & rudders installed. Neat to see however I bet that this is a pretty expensive option as well.

Yes its possible by why ? Way to costly . Want more speed ? Go with a more powerful engine . Want to be able to maneuver better ? Get a truster . What to make sure to get home ? Keep up on the maintenance and get Sea tow .

I run twin diesels and would be just as happy with a single . No ... I would prefer it .
