Auto Pilot Installation Questions

Post by Jfreeman1412 »

Hey Guys,
I finally broke down and bought a Raymarine Auto pilot. Now I need some help getting this baby installed. On my 1980 F-30 does anybody know what kind of steering system I have? Would it be a 2 line pressurized system?(Taken from Ray marine manual) Back near the Rudders, I have 3 hydraulic lines coming into a block and two going out to the steering Ram. Also can you help me out with what size the hydraulic lines are? Thanks for any help you can offer.

You are going to eliminate that box on the transom.

The 3 lines going into the box will now go into your steering pump. The center line will go straight to the pump. Then you will "T" the other lines to your pump and the steering ram.

Standard lines are 3/8 ID. If you lines are original, now would be a good time to refresh them.

You need to determine what system you have for sure , it may have been change from what the boat came with . On many systems that "block" would stay its a relief valve and needed . some pumps are installed need the helm others near the rudders depending on the system and the boat

There is no generic answer
