400 CID needed
Previously I posted the need for a standard rotation 400 CID engine. Turns out I need the starboard counter rotation engine, anyone?

Can you swap some parts from your old reverse rotator to a standard rotator.
400s are a little difficult to find and I'm betting a reverse one would be near impossible.
I need to rebuild/replace both of my 400s.
My short term plan was to get 2 standard rotation engines swap out the parts needed to reveres one and get boating next year.
I'm not sure exactly what parts need to be swapped out for a reverse, I'm guessing here:
starter
cam
oil pump?
water pumps?
distributer?
alternator?

You are correct. If you're having trouble finding 400s get ahold of muscle motors in Michigan. They have them in stock. They use the B block (400 & 383) to build strokers. They put a 440 crank in them to make a 451 in a lighter block that takes up a little less space.

I have a leaking rear main seal on my counter rotating 440 that the previous owner says is from having a standard rotation crank installed with knurling for oil control going the wrong way. I have more research to do, but that seems to be a chronic problem with rebuilt 440s. Not sure if you might run into it with a 400, but thought it was worth mentioning...

That is what I've read also. I think it can just be removed.

The cranks should be the same, it's the main seal that changes. The knurls in the seal spiral in the opposite direction. A common mistake for rebuilders not used to doing counter rotating marine applications.
