How can you tell?

I trust you're talking about engine rotation. If the engine runs, look at the direction the balancer on the front of the engine is spinning. This is the easiest way to determine rotation if engine runs. Having said that, and this is where it gets complicated, when discussing marine applications, engine rotation is determined by standing behind the engine and looking at the direction the flywheel spins. So in a standard rotation engine, the balancer at the front will spin clock wise (right hand -RH). When talking marine, this would be considered standard rotation (flywheel spins left - LH). A counter rotating engine would be the opposite of above. Clear as mud?! Do a search on engine rotation, touched on many times here. Hope that helps.

through much trepedation I agree with the previous, usually the starboard engine will be the reverse rotation. Advice look at the harmonic balencer and turn starter if it turns to the left or Counter Clockwise it is the reverse turning engine.

Usually Port is normal rotation and starboard is reverse.

But I know already you may get confused, I did and now I have it straight in my noggin, (I think)

See I told you it would be confusing. Simplification is to heck with marine, look at the harmonic balancer (front of crankshaft which is at the water pump end of engine or front to car people). Clockwise or to the right is normal, counter clockwise or to the left is reverse.

Now you can think all you want about marine standard at flywheel end and it is correct but most of us can simply understand as above and determine what engine we have. Autos have standard rotation of harmonic balancer (crankshaft) turns to right or clockwise, so does my tractor, etc.

Important to note also that the position of the standard and counter rotating engines can change based on applications that include v-drives and certain reduction gears who's outputs are opposite to engine rotation. For example, in a typical standard propeller rotation configuration (strb = RH, port = LH) with straight shaft out, usually the counter rotator is on strb side. However, if a Warner 1.91:1 reduction gear is used, the engine would be placed on the port side. The mud is getting thicker!

And if you look at my f28 with paragon transmission reverse engine is on stbd and normal on port, which is convential though not always for all installations.

Repeat if you want know just look at the crankshaft front as you would in a car, you will not be confused once you observe rotation there.

BK, that is my plan also, you are moving much faster than me. These 100+ days have wore me down and a bout with my back which seems to be relenting now, both has slowed me down. I have two new engines to go in sitting fully assembled in my shop. I did the mechanics first now comes the mucking.

BTW did the bleach treatment work pretty good in salon etc?

Wow looks nice and ready to be shipped to NJ! Yes the salon came up great - I ordered prescion cut diamonded plated stainless to cover all the white in the head and salon. It will look great and will be easy to clean.

Look forward to a pic of the diamond plate. Does the waste system work as it should?

Well I'm not sure - I don't see a holding tank is it supposed to have one?
