How do you remove a engine from a F36 .
This subject came up a while back on a f32 . My answer was to use a fork lift . At the time I did not expect to post photos . Well a few weekends ago my port engine went boom . So I had a busy day yesterday . I hope to be up and running to day

Sorry to hear you are having to rebuild an engine right in the middle of the season.
Hope you have her back together soon.

While that maybe true , I had to drive 4+ hours one way to get this ( with a lot of $$$). You can bet I will keep a lot of spares off the old enginecaptainmaniac wrote:WOW!!!! You keep a lot more 'spares' than most!!prowlersfish wrote:The fix![]()

Geez man , sorry to see this......good to see that you can get all this rectified this quickly, out and in with the replacement.....good job.
Looking back, did you get any warning of the failure , noise or just bang??? must of been a fair mess in there....

Re: How do you remove a engine from a F36 .
Not much if any warning . loss of power then vibration . Though I got a crab pot in the wheel but the vibration was still the there out of gear . From the loss of power to knowing I was screwed 30 seconds at the most . Still not 100% sure of the cause . Maybe blew the tip off #5 injector or a sudden loss of coolant ( senders don't work with no coolant ) I found the back freeze plug out not sure if that's a cause or a result .
I will up date when I tear it down and figure it out , but that will have to wait a while .
And yes it was a big mess .

The CAUSE of the failure is the concern.
Generally speaking, these things happen for a reason.
Repeating this incident is what we need to avoid.
Surely it was not a preventative maintenance issue.
Did you install these engines new?
How many hours?
Any possibility of overpropping at any time?
My condolences on the passing of your Cummins.

Re: How do you remove a engine from a F36 .
A few theories on what happened . #5 injector may have blown the tip and hydrolocked #5 was my first theory . But I found the rear freeze plug blown out of block so a sudden over heat is possible . no coolant = no / inaccurate gague reading and no alarm . but the plug could have blown out as a result of the engine blowing . I will know more when I take it apart . But that's not high on the to do list . I do know it broke the rod on the wrist pin end so I am pretty sure some thing stop the movement of #5 piston .
Not over propped since I have owned it
