I recently had one failing to turn on and it turned out to be the compressor overload protection went bad. It was a cheap fix. I would check that and the low cost components mentioned before before turning to the compressor. But it could still be a bad compressor in the end.

Looks like you have a lot of work to do.... if it were me I would focus on the work and not the launch... I think you are jumping the gun with that 11 day deadline to launch and risk putting her in before she is ready. +1. Don't rush it and end up like this guy http://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/vie...

It appears nobody knows the answer to this one. I can check what I have when I go out tomorrow, but I have no idea if mine are original either.

Do you suppose E-10 might have had a roll in this, Maybe eating up carb gaskets or O-rings? BoatUS might like to hear about this with an investigation for there E-10 and E-15 battle with the government. Suppose it's possible. The theory so far was that there was a backfire through the carb. But the...

Jerry,

Where is it on your boat? I haven't seen one on mine. Do you have wipers also? I have mounts for wipers but none there.

 I have a good friend that has 5 double beds on the boat. When asked "How many does your boat sleep?", they say 2!

So are you officially renaming your salon the rest-room? Be careful here, you don't want any guests to be misinformed about this! :o

I would tend to suspect a grounding problem on the boat itself rather than the marina. But if there is a marina problem it should be detectable. Put a voltmeter from the water to a solid ground on the dock such as the breaker panel. A common cause of death in marinas is swimmers around boats with gr...

Here is an idea to help isolate the issue. Swap the sending wire at the tachs between the port and starboard. If the other tach starts jumping you have an issue in the sending system. If it stay at the original tach it is probably a problem with the tach.

Very sad. Hope they decide to fix it. I wonder if the timing chain jumped a tooth while they were out. I had an engine in a pick-up truck do that once and cause a bad back fire from the carb when I tried to start it. Fortunately nothing caught fire.

Possibly EMI noise getting introduced on the sending wire from the coil. Also possibly a bad connection. Was it jumping to higher RPM or lower RPM? The first would tend to indicate EMI while if it is the second I would lean towards bad connection. EMI would be introduced by other wires (with higher ...

Agreed. All of the setups I have seen do not have the charger connected to the generator battery. Something else to consider is that some (most?) battery chargers have a protection mechanism that shuts itself down when it detects something else charging the battery - i.e. the engine alternator. This...
